Rainforests are forested areas with abundant and persistent rainfall, with annual rainfall ranging between 2.5 and 4.5 metres (98 and 177 in) in tropical rainforests and varies by location in temperate rainforests. The monsoon trough, sometimes referred to as the intertropical convergence zone, is critical in establishing the climatic conditions essential for Earth's tropical rainforests, which are distinct from monsoonal zones of seasonal tropical forest. The rainforest is classified into two types: tropical and temperate. Tropical rainforests occur closer to the equator, when the climate is more temperate. Temperate rainforests are located north or south of the equator, near colder coastal regions. The tropical rainforest is a hot, humid ecosystem where it rains continuously throughout the year.
They generate a large portion of the oxygen required by humans and animals. They are necessary because without them, there would be less oxygen to breathe! Rainforests also contribute to the Earth's climate stability. They contribute to the reduction of the greenhouse impact by absorbing carbon dioxide.
Rainforests provide an additional beauty to our world, in addition to their utilitarian roles in helping to maintain our planet healthy. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by plants, which releases oxygen into the atmosphere. This carbon dioxide is absorbed to help keep the Earth's temperature stable. Rainforests, namely the jungles, are commonly known as the "lungs of the earth" because they help to both filter the air of harmful greenhouse gases and increase local humidity. The rainforests act as a climate stabilizer, are home to a vast number of plants and animals, and contribute to plentiful rainfall across the globe.
Tropical rainforests and temperate rainforests are the two types of rainforests. Tropical rainforests may be located closer to the equator, where the climate is more pleasant for growing plants. Temperate rainforests can be found near colder coastal locations that are further north or south of the equator, as well as in the tropics. The tropical rainforest is a hot, wet ecosystem where it rains continuously throughout the year.
